Editorial Policy

Last Updated: June 30, 2026 · Maintained by Alex Dantsev, Florida-licensed General Lines Insurance Agent (License # G301587)

WhiskerCover exists to make pet insurance understandable. This policy explains how our content is researched, written, reviewed, and updated - and the standards we hold ourselves to so you can trust what you read here.

For the detailed scoring process behind our reviews, see our methodology. For how affiliate compensation works, see our disclaimer & affiliate disclosure.

1. Our Editorial Mission

Pet insurance is sold on jargon - waiting periods, bilateral exclusions, reimbursement models, benefit schedules. Our job is to translate that into plain language and help you decide what actually fits your pet and budget. Every article is written to answer a real question a pet owner is asking, not to push a particular product.

2. Editorial Independence

WhiskerCover is reader-supported and earns affiliate commissions when readers buy through some of our links (see how we make money and our affiliate disclosure). To keep that from distorting what we publish, we hold a firm line:

  • Affiliate commissions never determine our rankings, ratings, or recommendations.
  • Insurers and partners do not get to review, approve, or edit our content before it is published.
  • We publish the drawbacks - exclusions, waiting periods, price hikes at renewal, weak claim experiences - even for companies we earn commissions from.
  • When a cheaper or non-insurance option is genuinely the better call for a reader, we say so.

3. Who Writes and Reviews Our Content

WhiskerCover's pet insurance content is produced and overseen by Alex Dantsev, founder of WhiskerCover and a Florida-licensed General Lines Insurance Agent (License # G301587). WhiskerCover LLC is a Florida-licensed insurance agency (License # L134842).

Being licensed means we are accountable to a real regulator for how we represent insurance products - a standard most content sites in this space do not meet. Final editorial responsibility for everything published here rests with our licensed agent.

4. How We Research and Source Information

We build articles from primary and authoritative sources, and we link to the original wherever a figure or claim appears so you can verify it yourself. Our recurring sources include:

  • Industry data: the North American Pet Health Insurance Association (NAPHIA) State of the Industry report and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).
  • Government data: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and state insurance-department filings.
  • Veterinary references: Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), and peer veterinary specialty sources.
  • The policies themselves: carriers' official sample policy documents, benefit schedules, and current quotes pulled directly from insurer sites.

Where we cite a competing publisher rather than a primary source, we mark those links so they pass no ranking endorsement. Our full evaluation and scoring process is documented in our methodology.

5. Accuracy, Fact-Checking, and Corrections

Before an article is published, its factual claims are checked against the primary sources it cites, and dollar figures, percentages, and coverage details are traced back to a named, dated source. Even so, pet insurance products and prices change constantly, and no resource is perfect.

If you find something that looks wrong or out of date, please tell us at support@whiskercover.com. We investigate promptly, correct confirmed errors, and update the article's "Updated" date whenever we make a material change.

6. Use of AI and Automation

We are transparent about how our content is made. We use research and drafting tools - including AI - to gather data, organize sources, and produce first drafts efficiently. Those tools assist our process; they do not replace editorial judgment or accountability. Specifically:

  • Every article is reviewed against its cited primary sources and held to the standards on this page before it goes live.
  • A Florida-licensed insurance agent is responsible for the editorial decisions and insurance representations on this site.
  • We do not publish unverified, machine-generated claims as fact, and we do not present AI output as the advice of a named expert it did not come from.

7. Keeping Content Current

Pet insurance pricing, coverage, and state regulations move quickly, so currency matters as much as accuracy. Every article shows its original publication date and, when it has been revised, a visible "Updated" date that reflects the last substantive review. We re-review content periodically and whenever products, prices, or rules change in a way that affects what we have told readers.

8. Advertising and Sponsored Content

We do not publish paid "sponsored posts" disguised as independent editorial. Advertising and affiliate relationships are disclosed, affiliate and paid-partnership links are marked as such, and no advertiser can buy a higher ranking, a better rating, or the removal of criticism. Full detail is in our disclaimer & affiliate disclosure.
